What's Going on in the World of Music

Many Angered by Kurt Cobain Suicide Shirts

Kurt Cobain was the singer for the wildly popular grunge rock band Nirvana who committed suicide in April of 1994. Recently there have been tee-shirts sold with Kurt's handwritten suicide note printed on them. These shirts were first found on the fashion website "Etsy", but were removed quickly but reappeared on ebay later.

Many people, especially fans of Nirvana, were outraged by the sale of these shirts. People said things like, "As a huge Kurt fan I find this shit repulsive.", "I'm actually speechless and really this is just sick and obnoxious on every level." and "This makes me question the morality of the fashion industry." To these people it was a very disgusting and immoral think to do to buy sell or wear this shirt and it was the negative reactions that caused Etsy to remove the shirts from their website so quickly.

In my opinion, even as a fan of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana, I don't find these shirts so outrageous. Although I agree it was a strange thing to do, I don't find it disgusting or disrespectful. Trying very hard not to seem like a twisted person, I think these shirts were made in an effort to remember the kind of man Kurt was. There were some in a way beautiful outlooks on life within this note such as, "There's good in all of us and I think I simply love people too much, so much that it makes me feel too fucking sad.", and the last line of the note, "I don't have the passion anymore, and so remember, it's better to burn out than to fade away." One thing is for sure, Kurt didn't write down these thoughts for them to be shut away and hidden forever.

.5: The Gray Chapter: #1  Metal Album of 2014

This year Slipknot's newest album .5: The Gray Chapter was voted the best metal album of 2014 on Metal Hammer Readers' Album of 2014 Poll. What the band would produce for this album was a mystery because of the death of bassist Paul Gray and departure of drummer Joey Jordison. Many thought the band would not be able to give the same results with all the drama around them not to mention their 6 years of silence, but the return of the band was anything but a disappointment.

What makes this album so great is how the band uses everything at their disposal, Every song will set multiple moods and switch up on you keeping you engaged. From ominous obscure noises and light guitars and percussion creating an eerie and uneasy tone for the listener, to classic Slipknot aggression. Songs like "AOV" show the epic sounding catchy choruses fans have grown to know while other songs like "Custer" return to the bands to their violent twisted roots they may be best known for.

This truly is a great album for any metal fan. It's an album I bought myself and never regretted it for a second. There are songs in this album that can be listened to over and over and never get old including possibly the most popular song "The Devil in I" that became a clear favorite immediately after the album's release.

AC/DC Grammy Performance

An update on my last post about AC/DC: After the release and success of the band's new album "Rock or Bust", they have now earned their way onto the stage at the Grammy Awards in February. Yet again proving they still have it in them. Many including myself excited to see if the band can still put on a great, energized show.

However, one problem has arose. Drummer Phil Rudd is due in court in New Zealand on February 10, the day after the Grammy's and has not been cleared to leave the country. Because of this he will not be able to perform with the rest of the band. Although it has been confirmed the band will play next month, it has not been released who will be filling in in Rudd's absence.
